Unfortunately the first day I attended was Saturday, and since I came in so late I did not get a spot at the camping boneyard and instead had to set up in an overflow area they had made up. This was still quite a good place to be, and all the staff was accommodating. There were bathrooms right on this site, but no showers or any other facilities. To shower or do anything else everyone had to walk to the camping boneyard. This was not a big issue for me since I was planning to be in the festival area all the time anyway and the camping boneyard is close. Lockers were also being rented in the festival area, and this is a must since it is not recommended to leave any valuables alone in your tent and crowded areas like festivals are perfect for pickpocketers. I paid 20 euros for a locker, but that was just because I came in so late and not much time was left most of the time it costs 25 euros.
Food
There was a staggering variety of food available. There were vegetarian options; I am not vegetarian, so I do not know how good it was, lots of fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, and much much more. I had trouble trying it all, and that in itself is very impressive since anyone who knows me knows I can eat. Some of my favorites are listed in point form below:
- Metal Grass
- This is fries with mayonnaise and your choice of either mushroom sauce or pepperoni sauce.
- The one with pepperoni sauce is awesome, but you should have a beer with you as you drink it since it is quite hot 😁😁
- As for the mushroom sauce, I never tried it since there were so little time and so much music
- Beer balls
- this was a great tasting hunk of meat that contained beer right inside of it
- here is a recipe that is similar but I believe the ones at the festival were better https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/236203/cocktail-beer-balls/
- Ice Cream
- yes, there were many ice cream tents, and I just love ice cream, so I had to mention it.
Beer
The selection of beer was great at the festival. Jupiler was the main beer being sold, but if you went to the Belgium Beer bar or Beer and Stories, there were about 5 to 8 different beers available in total which I thought was good for a festival. I followed the strategy of drinking the special beers until I was too buzzed to notice the difference and then I started drinking Jupiler. The beer was also easily available throughout the festival which is a nice thing if you like beer.
Music
This, of course, the only section that really matters and so I'll just save you the stress and say it was great!!! I watched about 13 hours worth of concerts each day and although I was tired the bands just pulled me through with all the energy they were playing with. My favorite was Ozzy Osbourne and it was my first time seeing him!! There was one band that surprised me by being quite good, since I had never heard of them they were called Stone Broken. There were many other bands that I thought were awesome and I will make a separate blog post about each of them over the next few days.
Summary
This was the first time Graspop sold out and if this festival were any indication, it would not be the last time either so I would not dwaddle to get your tickets if you want to go next year; however, you still have time as of now June 26, 2018 😜. Seriously though this was a great festival with all the great bands, food, beer and unbeatable atmosphere and I feel so sorry for all those who missed it.
That is all I have for now, but trust me there is a whole bunch of stories I will be telling over the next few days, as I work to put them in writing.
